Channel Islands -Fishing is starting to improve....Joe and crew on the Mirage were able to snag some squid and catch some "glory fish" this past week....They had some White Seabass and some Good Halibut Fishing to fish in the upper 30lb. range......ON THE LIVE SQUID THEY SNAGGED WITH CANDYCATCHERS!!!

Channel Islands -Squid is there but tougher and tougher to locate.......Mitch and Crew made 6 Pieces of Squid on Friday Night at Anacapa......Only 6 Pieces! 6 Pieces! BUT!!!!!!!! They Caught 4 Seabass the Next morning and once again they come out as top boat! Time in Making Bait = Glory Fish. Well Done Guys! |

Channel Islands -Squid is thinning out and becoming harder to find....This is the time of the year when SNAGGERS are KEY!!! Theyre will be no squid for sale at the dock or Islands very soon. Channel Islands -Squid is still at Anacapa Island and the Reel Therapy does it again ON 8/2 with 6 Nice Fat Seabass on the Live Squid! The anglers who are putting in the time to make bait are catching nice seabass and the halbut are beginnging to bite well for those who target them!

Channel Islands -Squid is at Anacapa Island confirmed by a Private Boater who hammered the Seabass. Squid was tough but the "4x4" Jig got the Job Done and they limited on Seabass to 32 lbs.....See Front Page for pics. Spend your time making the "candy" bait and you will be rewarded. Daytime snagging is very good right now!!! |

Channel Islands - We made squid at Anacapa Island aboard the Mirage on Tuesday Night 7/10 for our trip to SBI on Wednesday...We snagged a couple hundred pieces. The "4x4" Snagger was working killer for the sight snagging! The squid then balled up enought to get a couple scoops with the net and get on our way to SBI! Our Big "Glory" Fish consisted of 2 Fat Yellowtail to 34lbs and A Nice Seabass Just Shy of 30lbs at SBI! Live Squid was the Key! We had the bait! We just needed them to bite!

Channel Islands - "Bait" Squid is at both Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands. There has been a good showing of Yellowtail at Anacapa Island and Santa Barbara Island. The White Seabass made a Decent Showing Last Week at Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands with good size fish to 40lbs in the mix.
We had out 3rd Charter of the Year on the Mirage last Friday 6/22 and we opted to go to SBI and try for Yellows....We had a Great trip! We had 26 Yellows to 33lbs!!! 24 of those fish were caught on Live Squid! 1 Fell to the iron and 1 fell to a swimbait presented just prefectly by Jeff Krieger aka Rhyno! These were big tought SBI yellows and they really wanted the squid! Thanks to Joe for putting us on some amazing fish!

NEWSFLASH!!......Giant Squid are biting in Ventura! Many boats had over 100 Jumbos on them and they were up to 50lbs! Last Night the Island Spirit went out on a Twilight looking for the Jumbos and Found 13 Willing Jumbos that are now steaked and ready eat! 6 of those including the Jackpot were caught on CandyCatchers Jumbo Jigs!

Channel Islands -We had our 2nd Annual CandyCatchers Kids Charter on the Mirage this past Sunday 5/6/07. We had a great time rockfishing at Santa Rosa Island and we made squid at 1:00 on the afternoon at our last stop. Daytime Squid is Possible and sometimes easier than night! Youll be amazed how well the "4x4" works in the day... Santa Cruz Island has Squid as Well.....Try Willows, Valdez or The Painted Cave Area....

Channel Islands -CandyCatchers ProStaffer Dan "ODH33" Hernandez was at Santa Rosa Island aboard the Mirage. They made plenty of bait squid on the snaggers and then they floated! They proceeded to get boat limits of Lingcod to 25lbs and Limits of Rockcod! Tim on tailchaser was at Santa Cruz Island and reports squid in a couple locations as well. Not enough for the commercial guys but plenty to be snagged for fishing!

Although the area from the beginning of April may have dried out...you may want to try the backside.....RR area....Tim on Tailchaser made 2 tanks easily on the daytime squid! Bring your "Pr0" and "4x4" Snaggers for the daytime squid and you'll be amazed!

Channel Islands -Bait Squid is at Santa Rosa Island.....Some Days are Great....Some Days are not...Our charter on 4/1 on the Mirage was awesome...We made Squid on the "4x4" then proceeded to Catch a LIMIT OF SEABASS for ANGLERS and CREW. Did I mention the 3 Halibut? 25, 30 and 40lbs!!!!! ALL ON LIVE SQUID!!

Channel Islands -Their is squid at the Islands! It is being snagged by private boaters and the sportboats. Pat on the Pacific Dawn had the www.sportfishingreport.com Group on a Private Charter Saturday Night. They started off by snagging them and then they got a decent float! Full Tanks of Squid

3/13/07 - Hot News Just in!!! A report from a fisherman who purchased 2 Jigs at Fred Hall Long Beach....
Here is squid report for wiring my 2 squid jigs. Went out of seaforth on New Seaforth monday night. We were done in about 1.5 hours all the squid you wanted. Started off slow, but within 30 minutes it was wide. I used gold colored 1.5 pound jig it was perfect. I likes action of it sinking compared to the longer jigs. I had both type and tried your and compared to the other Monster jig. Your's did perform better when squid fishing was slow, but when it was wide, well you know the story from there. I did not lose a squid with your jig and fished button down on my 2 speed.

Channel Islands -Squid is present and verified at Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands. Ive also heard reports of squid at Anacapa (but have not been able to verify) Weather has been up a bit but looks better for later in the week!
Catalina and Surrounding - Squid is at Catalina and the Seabass are Starting to Chew with some Good Size Fish Reported!. Havent heard of any Jumbo Squid their since last Wednesday....
Orange County and San Diego - Seaforth Sportfishing, Dana Landing, Daveys Locker and Newport Landing are all on the Jumbo Squid....Daily and Twilight Trips are available and really inexpensive.....Try it out...Its a Ton of Fun..... |

Channel Islands -Squid is present and verified at Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands. Theres a few boats out today and we'll post the reports as soon as we get them.
Catalina and Surrounding - Squid is at Catalina. Both "Common Bait Squid" and "Jumbo Squid" at Catalina Island..Yes Jumbo Squid at Catalina Island! Theyre running 30-40lbs! Many boats have bait squid tanked up and are ready to go Tonight and Tomorrow Morning! Giant Squid are also in the Santa Monica Bay! The "Redondo Special" hooked a few and landed 2 yesterday! The Spitfire is running a twilight trip Saturday Night @ 6pm.

Channel Islands -Squid is present and verified at Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands. Mitch and Crew on Reel Therapy made over 200 pcs Saturday Night. They were getting 4 and 5 at a time on the "4x4" jig... Only 1 other boat in Sight. Conditions weree sloppy on the way out from Ventura Harbor but were Flat Calm at Santa Rosa!
Catalina and Surrounding - Squid is at Catalina but a tougher time reported....Bring your snaggers as they were not floating this weekend! The Dreamer had 3 WhiteSeabass over 50 lbs, 2 at 40 and 2 more at 20 lbs....Way to go guys!

Channel Islands -Squid is here and the rockfish opener is in just 10 days! Look for some great reports real soon! Weve heard of some nice catches recently from the commercial fleet! Also a GetBent Sportfishing Member caught a Yellowtail from a Float Tube at County Line on Sunday....hmmmm......
Catalina and Surrounding - The backside of Catalina has some decent volume. Private Boaters and Sportboats are making squid! Make sure to have your CandyCatchers Snaggers and not just some import! It does make a difference!

Norcal - The "Jumbos" are still biting! The Cordell Bank, Santa Cruz and Boats from Morro Bay are locating and catching the big guys! The New Sea Angler had one at 70lbs!
Channel Islands -Squid is present and in volume. Ive heard of some really big "wraps" from the commercial fleet including one of 80 tons! Be careful out there....A squid boat sank outside VTA harbor on 2/13 loaded with 33 Tons!

Norcal -Jumbo Squid are at the Cordell Bank are Still Biting Biting WFO! The New Salmon Queen skippered by Captain "Shim" caught some huge squid on Saturday and Lost A Montster. It attached another squid at the surface and "looked like a seal" reported Shim! Its lucky it didnt touch the jig!

Norcal -Jumbo Squid are at the Cordell Bank and Biting WFO! The New Sea Angler from Bodega Bay Sportfishing Had 566 "Jumbo" Squid to 59lbs for their 32 Anglers Yesterday!! Captain Powers on the New Sea Angler Posted His #'s as 38.06 123.25 and said "they are stacked up thick "millions" ...Hard to miss! 17 Miles from Bodega Bay for all you hardcore boaters! The New Salmon Queen from Emeryville Sportfishing skippered by Captain "Shim" is also on the Squid. These are your best bets right now to be guaranteed a Jumbo Squid in '07!

San Diego - Seaforth Sportfishing in San Diego is on them! Last night, the New Seaforth caught 160+ squid for 43 anglers, and the Sea Watch caught 100+ squid for 31 anglers. We are currently running two Giant Squid Trips, departing at 4:30pm and 6:00pm. The squid are as large as 50 lbs. This is not the trip for light tackle or the faint of heart. Our Pro Staffer Kelly Ashmore was out at the islands over the weekend and made squid at Willows on the New and Improved "4x4" Hook. Pro Staffer Dan Hernandez was at Santa Cruz on Friday and Catalina on Saturday. Dan reports squid at both Islands!
